TENUN IKAT is a method of patterning cloth by tying bunches of thread together in certain places before the thread is dyed. The parts of the thread which are to remain undyed are reserved by tying them tightly with material that resists the absorption of the making of tenun. This woman make the Tenun Ikat with a traditional machine called Mesin Tenun (woven).
Due to a slight bleeding of the dyes, patterns created by this technique have a character of softness and an unusual effect which blends with the fabric texture.
